SUPVA Stages Street Play Sankalp to Spread Awareness on Drug De-addiction

Dada Lakhmi Chand State Institute of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA) staged a powerful street play titled Sankalp as part of the nationwide Nasha Mukti Abhiyan. The 20-minute play, directed by Dr. Dushyant, Director of the Department of Student Welfare, sought to highlight the urgent need to free society—particularly the youth—from the grip of substance abuse. Performed primarily by first-year students, the play drew enthusiastic participation from the Faculty of Film & Television and the Department of Visual Arts. The script, written by Shri Vibhanshu, Professor of Acting, wove together compelling narratives underscoring the theme of de-addiction and the creation of a healthier society. The play concluded with an inspiring message—true progress can only be achieved in a society free from addiction. The coordination of the play was done by Shri Prakash Khande, Programme Officer, NSS, and Shri Harinder, faculty member of Visual Arts. The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya and Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha. Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya said, “At SUPVA, we believe that education is not confined to classrooms alone—it must extend to shaping values and addressing social challenges. Through Sankalp, our students are using art as a medium to inspire society to break free from the chains of addiction and to embrace healthier, more meaningful lives.” Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik Manocha added, “This initiative reflects the spirit of SUPVA, where creativity and social responsibility go hand in hand. The participation of our young students in Sankalp shows how performing arts can become a strong tool for change, spreading awareness and igniting conversations that matter.” Prof. Umesh Arya, Dean & Chairman, Faculty of Media Studies, GJUST, Haryana, graced the occasion as Special Guest. Highlighting its wider outreach, Shri Prakash Khande announced that the play would be staged during Ramleela at the Old ITI Ground tomorrow, and in the coming days, it will also be performed in selected villages to inspire thousands to stay away from drugs. The cast of the play included Sandeep, Nikhil, Ankit, Mania, Anjali, Bharti, Vinay, Deepanshu, Anjali, Saniya, Dev, Sachin, Muskan, Vinod, Anjali, Dev Rohila, Prachi, Karan, Abhay, Prakash, Harinder, among others.
