DLC SUPVA Foundation Day Celebrations Blend Tradition, Creativity, and Camaraderie

The Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) marked its Foundation Day with a resplendent showcase of art, culture, and tradition, bringing the week-long Tiranga Mahotsav to a memorable crescendo. The event, held in the university’s packed auditorium, drew an eclectic gathering of dignitaries from the fields of media, literature, cinema, medical sciences and public life, alongside faculty, students, and alumni. The celebrations began with Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik welcoming the guests and giving a heartfelt account of the university’s journey since its inception. She highlighted milestones in academic innovation, creative output, and community engagement, noting, “DLC SUPVA is not merely an institution, it is a living, breathing canvas — one where every brushstroke is contributed by our faculty, students, and the community. Today’s celebration reflects the vibrancy and collaborative spirit that have brought us this far.” It is for the first time that so many prominent guests have arrived in the campus for any occasion. In keeping with Haryanvi tradition, the distinguished guests were honoured with a ceremonial Pagdi, symbolising respect and cultural pride. Among the dignitaries, prominent journalist and film Sh. Anant Vijay addressed the students, each offering insights from their own professional journeys. Sh. Anant Vijay observed, “Art and media share a common purpose — to reflect society, challenge it when needed, and preserve its stories for future generations. Institutions like DLC SUPVA nurture the voices and visions that will define tomorrow’s cultural landscape. The creative disciplines taught here are as relevant to real life as they are to performing and visual arts.” The programme brimmed with variety, talent and patriotism. From the pulsating beats of Haryanvi folk dance to the soul-stirring Ragini on Shaheed Bhagat Singh by Ravi Kumar, each performance carried emotional weight and artistic finesse. The evocative 20-minute play Operation Sindoor, written and directed by Sh. Vibhanshu Vaibhav, the play, enacted by 22 students, vividly depicted the plight of the Pahalgam victims, leaving the audience deeply moved. Adding more patriotic fervour to the evening, Band SUPVA delivered a spellbinding set of patriotic songs that resonated with every heart in the audience. Their soulful melodies and powerful rhythms created an atmosphere charged with pride and emotion. The high point came with a rousing rendition of ‘Teri Mitti me mil Janwan’ and ‘ Aei Watan, Mere Watan’, which brought the entire gathering to its feet — guests, faculty, and students alike. Before that, soulful Gazal rendition of ‘Dil mein ek lahar si uthi hai abhi’ and ‘aaj jane ki zid na karo’ by Dhruv and Nishtha of Band SUPVA completely swept the audience. All the events were designed, coordinated and executed by the students under the guidance of the teachers. Around 30 alumni students, who are successfully pursuing their careers also attended the celebrations. Conversations flowed as freely as the music and laughter, creating new memories and reinforcing old bonds. Among much cheer, the Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya announced that the Alumni Meet shall take place in November this year. The much-anticipated Fashion Show proved to be the evening’s crown jewel. Choreographed by eminent Delhi-based Hemant Kela with styling by Shyam Singh Rajput, the seven themed rounds — Sustainability and Ecology, Indian Heritage, Rebellious Bikers, Fairy Tale, Fusion Illusion, Dual Mode, and Modern Furniture — drew thunderous applause. Each garment and accessory, conceptualised and crafted by the Design students, was a testament to the university’s emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. The event was titled as Sutram, which means the integration of principles of design in one core manifestation. It was anchored by Director PR, Dr. Benul Tomar and Dr. Manisha Yadav and Ms Jigyasa from the Faculty of Design. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya, visibly proud of the students’ achievements, said, “Foundation Day is our collective mirror — reflecting our progress, our challenges, and our shared dreams. The performances tonight showed not only artistic skill but also sensitivity to societal issues and cultural heritage. This blend of creativity, conscience, and collaboration is what makes DLC SUPVA unique.” The evening concluded with a gala dinner for guests, faculty, and students, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and informal exchange.
