Celebrating Reading Culture: DLC SUPVA Inaugurates three-day Book Fair
The Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak,
inaugurated a three-day Book Fair today at the Faculty of Design. The fair, scheduled from
24th to 26th September, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya in the presence
of senior faculty members and officials.
Bringing together publishers, distributors, retailers, agents, and book lovers on one
platform, the fair has drawn participation from eight leading publishers and distributors
from Rohtak and the Delhi-NCR region. On display are hundreds of national and
international titles from over 70 publishers, covering a wide range of domains including
architecture, visual arts, design, cinema, media, art history, fiction, and humanities. Faculty
members and students from across departments thronged the fair on the opening day,
appreciating the variety and richness of the collection.
Speaking about the event, Dr Arya remarked, “A book is like a best friend who will never
walk away from you. Books have been here for centuries, and without them, our knowledge
of past civilizations and cultures would have been impossible. I congratulate the teams
involved in organizing this fair. It is a wonderful initiative to nurture the culture of reading,
which opens a whole new world to us.”
Looking ahead, Dr. Arya emphasized the need to expand the scope of the Book Fair in future
editions. He suggested opening the fair to the general public, inviting and felicitating
eminent writers, and giving greater prominence to Haryanvi literature and artists, so that
the public can engage with the state’s rich cultural legacy.
Incharge, Library Dr Sima explained the rationale behind the fair. “The main objective of this
book fair is not only to enrich our library but also to give students and faculty access to a
wide range of titles for their personal collections. By offering them such a diverse selection,
the fair motivates students to cultivate the habit of reading and make informed choices,”
she said.
Registrar Dr. Gunjan Malik added, “Events like this Book Fair remind us that a university’s
strength lies not only in its classrooms but also in the richness of its libraries and the
curiosity of its readers. I hope our students use this opportunity to cultivate lifelong habits
of reading and inquiry.”
The inaugural event saw the presence of all senior university officials, underscoring DLC
SUPVA’s commitment to fostering a vibrant academic and cultural environment.
